low oil pressure.....

well after driving back down to school over spring break (260 miles each way) I have noticed a very diminished oil pressure. normally it hung around 35psi (I know a little low but for 130K not bad) but it has basicly dropped over night to the 15 range. it reads zero for the first two seconds on startup and knocks until the pressure comes up. it has oil and was just changed at xmas time. I was gonna try a new filter and hope that takes care of it (praying for some junk in the filter and a bad check valve in it)

so besides bad bearings and a dead pump what else coudl it be? it doesn't make any other noises after the first couple seconds and runs fine.

Nick,
What kind of oil you running?? I noticed a 10 to 20lb drop running synthetic oils (Mobil 1). Was wondering if your well broken in motor has to much clearance to run the synthetics. The Syns are relitively thin as oil goes.

whats a good reading on the oil pressure, I think mine is around 35-40.
Matt

35 - 55 psi @ 2000rpm; hot

generic walmart 10w30 dino oil

goes through a quart or so every month.

I had run 20w50 but it will burn real bad (rings are strong enough)

General rule of thumb is a minimum of 10psi per 1000rpm.

Nick - I'd try an oil and filter (use a Motorcraft FL-1A) change first and see what that does. I'm confused by your comment that your engine burned the 20w-50 worse than 10w-30. Should be the other way around. :?
