Manifold Mounting Ears

Is there an easy way to fix the ears on the ends of the block that the exhaust manifold bolt into? I have a broken one at the front of the block and dont know if JB Weld would hold up on something like that. Thnx

I'm in the middle of trying this right now. I made a tab from JB Weld and drilled and tapped it. It stipped out at about 5 lbs of torque. My current plan is to drill the JB Weld all of the way through and put a nut on the other side, which I will hold in place with JB Weld.

So my thinking is that JB Weld is probably strong enough for the tab but not for the threads. I guess I'll find out if JB Weld can survive all of the heating and cooling cycles.

Sadly I just got two 200's and I think they both have the ears broken off of them on the ends.

Would brazing or spot welding it really work well for long periods of time?

And not to hi-jack but is there ANY way to stop from breaking these ears off in the future or is it just inevitable?

8) i would weld a stud in the broken holes. as for preventing breakage, perhaps using studs at the fragile ends is the way to go.

Same thing just happened to my 200. Broke off both end ears on manifold. JB weld doesnt hold and impossible to tap them out. They rust solid. Break em off, bolt will come out. I welded studs in place. Better now than originally i'd assume. good luck

Just an update on my attempt with JB Weld. I made the tab from JB Weld, drilled it all of the way through and JB Welded a nut on the other side. I'm able to torque the bolt down just fine but every time I go to retorque it, the bolt turns almost a half turn. The tab made of JB Weld must be slowly compressing under the torque. Welding in a stud is definitely the way to go if you can. I'm going to stick with my fix until it leaks. The old manifold never leaked with no tab at all so maybe I'll get lucky and the header won't leak. I'm not optimistic though.

I broke mine off installing headers.Havent run it very long but have had no problems leaking..Asked same question when I did it and most of the responses were the same.. leave it be.
