Milky Oil

hey all


did an oil change on the old girl today and notice that my oil was a lil milky looking. and the head gasket is brand new. I did have some cooling system problems with the water pump gasket, thermostat and all. What should i check for before i start diging in to it to replace the head gasket. thanks guys

1: some coolant may have gotten into the oil when the head gasket was changed.

2: your head gasket could have gone bad, or was not installed right.

3: you could have a cracked head or block.

are you losing coolant? if not the likely it was #1

Me too.
Another thing to check for would be excessive pressure in the cooling system and/or crankcase if its #2 or #3 causing over heating and/or blow by, but pray for #1. Did you drain the oil and coolant when you replaced the head gasket, or is this the first oil change since the replacement?

Just pressure test your cooling system. It will help you pinpoint the problem.
If it holds pressure then you are back at #1. If it does not hold pressure air or coolant will come out somwhere.

came to the conclusion the head gasket is blown. all my cylinders read 135 psi compression however # 5 & 6 only read 35 then drop to zero. Another Quick Q for you i had a valve job done on the falcon not to long ago probly only 25 miles ago. Can a bad valve job cause this problem.. Also if it is a bad valve job would i get any compresson at all. The reason i ask is the machine shop who did my vallaves was recently sued for not doing a correct valve job on a chevy motor i wonder if they messed up mine to thanks a bunch

8) unless they created severe notches in the valves, you would still have some compression. likely what happened is that they didnt machine the head surface properly, and ensure it is flat.

Either the head is warped from improper installation (torque or torque sequence), or the gasket is blown between the two cyls (BTDT). Or the head or block are cracked between cyls. Definitely not likely the valves.
