Hi Folks,

While I'm doing some head work, I would like to change my stock starter on my 66 Mustang with Dagenham trans. After 40 years it was getting "tired" and was getting dificult to start the engine.

I was talking to Mike, but there're no starter availible from CI. Does anyone have an idea? Didn't found anything real usefull for me searching.

Thanks
Elvis

Thanks for the cal-mustang link.

What you guys think about this . Using the search I found also that the FE startes should fit on Falcon Six. I'm really wondering if that starter would with high-mount-dagenham.

Thanks
Elvis

when i changed from the three speed to to the dagenham four speed in my 62 econoline i used the same starter.im currently using an advance auto starter for a 62 econoline.
i missed the [mini]in the title.

My neighbor, Greg Porter has a business that makes starters. GPE will make mini starters for any vehicle and has taken on commercial engines at times. He likes the challenge if it is an odd-ball starter that no-one supports with aftermarket. I recently bought one for my Pontiac.
Here is his website.

@early ford fan: Thanks, that good info to know that starter fits even on three or foor speed trans.

What engige you got in your econoline? Its quite heavy car? I'm wondering if the trans can handle it, as it's know for her weakness...

@66 Fastback: Thats a good hint, thanks!

His prices are competitive. I got a neighbor discount but I do not think his prices are near as high as the $294 of that PowerMaster. (Maybe the super heavy duty race starters are, I don't know.)

I'll write to him. Yes, the ~$300 is really the top end i wanna spend for a starter....

Thanks Doug

i have a 170 with a cut 250 head, holley 5200,and duraspark 2.my van only weighs 2500 pounds so im told.the trans works fine with all forward gears syncronized.i only wish first gear was lower.first and second gear are too close imo.i usally just skip second on level ground unless im carrying a load.

I used a FE reduction gear starter I got from Summit racing...it bolted right up and is fully adjustable, meaning it allowed me to mount the solenoid away from the header...It has a 360 degree adjustment...it works great and looks great too!...think I paid $235-265, can't remember off the top of my head.

Ya!...here is the link to SR web site with the exact starter I bought...it does come with many shims for spacing, however I did not use them...the starter is compact and I can now remove it if necessary with out removing the header...it has a ton of cranking power!

though a little pricey, it's well worth it...I melted my first original starter wire in the first test drive with the new motor...I now have plenty of clearance with the new starter.
