We have been looking into the possiblities of producing roller cams. But have a couple hurdles to over come first.
#1: There are no roller cores in existence.
#2: Need to design and produce custom lifters with extended tie bars.
#3: Need to develope custom profiles and produce the patterns.
Well, there was no need to look at #2 & #3 unless we could overcome #1 first. Normally to get a custom core produced, by one of the two US companies that make the cores, you need to order a minimum of 2000 blanks. That would be financially impossible for me, as I seriously doubt I could sell that many in the required time frame. But I don't give up easily, so I called and talked to one of the companies a couple months ago and explained my situation. I had the good fortune of being personally refered to the owner, which really helps. Today, he sent me a reply, agreeing to produce the blanks in quantities suitable to make this a doable project.
Now comes hurdle #2, designing and producing a custom lifter. If I can get past this step, number three is a piece of cake. So keep your fingers crossed. Even if I can work out a successful lifter design, it doesn't mean I'll be able to get them produced at a reasonable cost/quantity. But I've been on a good streak lately, so ya never know.
With that said, I'm running a poll to see how much interest there is in them. I may do the same with some of the other products were looking into, but want to see how this one goes first.
