I don't know if this post should be in this area or the experimentation area but here it goes.

If you all will go to the ftp address below you will see a picture of my rebuild 200 (finally finished) with three carburetors placed on the log. The one on the left is the YF (original). The one in the middle is a Motorcraft 4180 mounted on an adapter (two actually) and finally, the last one is my Motorcraft 2150.

They are all within a 1/4" in total height so I don't think hood clearance will be an issue but I didn't know if the 4180 with the adapters is worth the trouble. Or if it will even work.

Need your input. Need to know the technicals. :)

Thanks.

The 4180 is really a para 600 cfm carb that is looking for a 175 to 190 hp, 302 engine to feed. A log 200 will never do that unless you suss out an alloy plate that duplicates a 2V 250 or Maxi Eccono intake manifold. There just isn't the porting available. If your engine was worked enough, it could work okay. The problem is the lack of manifold vacuum. On a 25% bigger 250, it'd be kewl, but on a little 200, it'd bogg unless you want to make a screamer that peaks at 6000rpm, revs to 6500 rpm, and has maximum torque at 4500 rpm.

The YF in twin carb form would be okay, if you could just jet it lean enough. Dunno if there are enough jet combos out there. The 2150, well, thats the one to use. It's sizes nicely, and if you can get a 1.08 or even 1.21 venturi item, it'd be the best pick. Perfect!

Thanks! That's all I needed to know. I was pretty sure the 4180 was overkill and just won't work with my current setup but I had it sitting on my parts bench and thought..."hmmmm".

I'll stick with the 2150. :D

Thanks again.

A 600 4bbl Holley on an engine between 175 to 190HP like the one in the above sounds good. Just a question would the secondaries open up at all at around 185 HP. Half of 370 is 185hp would this be the point when they start to open.
Just curious if anybody knows as there is no point in running around on 2 barrels all the time. Anyone tried the paper clip technique on the secondaries with around this sort of power.
