Okay I just got a MSD box a few minuets ago. I have a Dura Spark2 distributor with a GM HEI moduel. Can I just wire it up like normal or do I need to do anything to it. I am just making sure I am not going to burn anything up on it.

8) you might try contacting msd. they have wiring diagrams to wire their box to work with the duraspark dist. you will be replaceing the gm module as the msd is a stand alone box. although msd may have a wiring diagram for using the gm module as well.

MSD sells a connector to use their box with the Duraspark distributor. IIRC, it plugs right in, so you won't have to split wires. Look for a diagram in the MSD manual that comes with the ignition. Martín.

Thanks man. Okay just to make sure I am not going to mess this up. I can wire it up like the "using the stock moduel" but I will still have the HEI moduel? That will be cool right?

Dan

If you are using the MSD6A box you will NOT need the Electronic (stock) Control Module.

Okay I don't think I wrote that right. I don't have a stock module. I have a HEI module. I am going to hook up a 6AL box. If I use the diagram on that link you gave me called "Using the stock module" I can hook it up like that and I will still keep the HEI module right? If not I really don't know what is going on!

If you have an MSD 6AL, you no longer need the HEI module.

You toss that and wire the distributor directly to the MSD input. You can use an MSD adapter or just wire the purple and orange wires directly.

Then TOSS the HEI module. No longer needed.

If you scroll down the page you will see diagrams that explain how to wire to an MSD box.

Okay I think I got it now. Thanks for everyones help on this.

Definitely a good reason to get the MSD box. The red strain relief Duraspark II ign. module is $100 at NAPA (blue strain relief is $50). Neither box are known for being too tough. But, the MSD 5, and 6A and I think the 6AL are 50 smog legal! So even my '78 Friggin Futura can use the 6A and dump the DII Ign. Mod (red strain relief - Calif. legal but not the blue one) and be legal!

Cool, huh?
