Msd vs. Mallory

I am looking at putting a ignition box on my auz 250 does anyone have any opinion as which is better either Msd or Mallory? thanks

Pretty equivalent as far as I know.

I'd probably go with one of Summit's boxes. They are made by Mallory and are a good bit cheaper.

8) both are very good boxes. i have used both over the years and never had a problem. the only problem we ever had with a mallory ignition was the unilite system. the trigger wasnt very good in the early years, but they are much better now. the boxes and coils have always been good though.

I run a Mallory HyFire 6a...equivalent to the MSD 6a. The Summit Street & Strip is a bit better buy though.

I was only kidding

Don't get all defensive on me now

Actually for some strange odd reason when I was building up my 5.0 and shopping for a new dizzy with a TFI module...I stumbled across quite a few who where very upset of the quality of the MSD TFI dizzy...people were saying that they were going through module after module, that they would only live a few thousand miles...so I purchased a Mallery TFI unit instead...I've yet to run it as it still sits in the box, but I have not read anything bad about the Mallery unit so far.

I guess this is just a pointless post

Some of the MSD ignition boxes are/have taken heat on the Speed Talk Forum but IIRC it was limited to just one particular race model.

l'm running the bottom of the line MSD with a junk yard accuired stock DSII and couldn't be happier. running a 50 gap on the plugs and it purrs like a kitten at all rpms.
