muffler be gone

my new gas tank is too big to fit with my original muffler, for now until i get new headers and can do my duel exhaust, i just wanna take a saws all and cut the pipe before the muffler, so i can then put my new gas tank in. I don't care how loud it sounds, i'm worried about whats going to come out of my exhaust since there wont be any muffler. As for performance, i dont care about that right now, i just need to drive my falcon because its been sitting for so long, i'm worried about it.

Thanks again guys !

It will be loud but you shouldn't have any problems as long as you cut it off just at the axle. I know thats what i did with mine for a while cause i was tired of not hearing the motor when it was on. Fun for a little bit, but every ricer tried to race me. Also I lost bottom end but it worked as far as driving.

Yup, that'll be fine. I don't know what size tubing your running, but my 64 had a stock muffler on it and 1 3\4 pipe. Like Rommaster2 said, I wanted to hear the motor. So I cut off the muffler fired it up and it sounded like a ricer :x . Couldn't have that, but if your running 2" pipe it should sound much better.

As far as what will come out of the exhaust with out a muffler, absolutly nothing that didn't come out before. The only thing a muffler does is cancel sound waves.
You may however, want to clamp on a 45* turn down. Just a matter of preferance. I like to do so because if the motor runs slightly rich it will keep that black soot off the underbody.

Can't you get a glass pack for like $20 at Walmart and just clamp it on?

Actually I had a pair of them that I took off my 73 F-100, so I used one of those. I also ran 2 1\2" pipe from the 'pack to the rear(prolly bout a foot total.).
It actually has a pretty descent idle note now.

Eventually it will get the 2.25 or 2 1\2" pipe all the way back, with a turbo muffler, but for now, it works :D

chambered mufflers like the Turbo/flowmaster design sound awesome on 6's they give them more of a deep sound straight trough types like glasspacks/magnaflow then to give them a high winny sound.

and cherrybomb turbo mufflers cost the same as glass pack and u can pick them up at any parts store for under $20

Ahh - The 73 F100. Best truck ever made. Mine was an XLT Ranger we called Sherm. Built like a sherman tank. Sherm had dual glass packs!

I got him from the original owner. Short bed, 390 2V with 4 speed tranny. I miss that truck. Some shots before and after the body work (did it all myself - and you can tell  )

Man, I'd say she looks pretty good, and I love that color to! Mines a long bed with a 302, which is now straight piped, and its a Custom. But I have to agree, those trucks were built to last.
I have to say though, the 67 is one heck of a truck to, but they share most of the same suspension and stuff, so its only natural they'ed both be beasts.

They just have such personality, and they are comfortable, I gotta agree they are the best trucks ever made!
