muffler question...

Ive been reading that the flowmaster original 40 series muffler is a little loud inside the car and it is a 2 chamber muffler... what im wondering is, it couldn't be louder inside the car than a glasspack could it? i mean, a glasspack is a single chamber right? im wondering cause im thinking about getting a flowmaster to replace my glasspack this christmas time...

If your "Glasspack" is a straight through design, then yes, it will be louder that a 40 Flowmaster, but not much. You may still get some drone at steady cruise speeds.

I have a strait-through glasspack on mine, 2.5"

It's not very loud at all and doesnt really drone, either.

Of course, I have the turbo also which works as a muffler of sorts, too.
 
The noise from a flowmaster isn't the tone, its the drone inside the car. Glasspacks are just loud period, though they don't drone at all really.
 
Does your tailpipe come all the way out from under your car? Which way does it point? Both of those answers have a big impact on the way your car sounds on the inside, especially if your worried about a drone.
Also consider tail pipe length and how far upstream your muffler is, this affects your overall sound. A longer tailpipe will make it quieter.
 
this is it.. the glasspack is right at the end and im probably gonna put the muffler in the same spot cause someone told me if its under the car it will cause more vibration..

It looks good like that but my guess is its really loud. If you have it put in front of your rear tire it'll be a lot quieter. Most mufflers from the factory mount in front of the tires so I don't think it'll vibrate unless its touching on the underbody some where.
 
He may be referring to the underbody acting as a drum and resonating.

The tone cars develope is part muffler part piping. If you move that glasspack to the stock location, it'll be a bit louder in the car and quieter/better toned outside.
 
that is the stock location for a 1972 maverick.. right behind the axle.. i may have it put before the axle though..
 
I am reading about all these good and bad reviews for flowmaster but I NEED SOME VIDS PEOPLE!!!. all can be assured that i will have a video comparing my glasspack to the flowmaster...

My honest opinion? Nope. I6s inherently have a drone, and flowmasters by design have a drone. Combine the two and.......I'm not a flowmaster fan at all though, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

My choice would be a dynomax superturbo in the shorter body design. That way you have a nice good sounding idle and at WOT it will bellow with the best of them. Oh, and it will be quiet when its brand new, but they sound better and better over time.
 
I really like the sound of my Flowmaster 40. It's on a single out with 2" pipe. It does drone (some) over 80, so that is no real problem. I can still hear the radio.
 
the glasspack will get louder and become pretty much straight pipe... just lettin you know..

This is my mustang with a 1 7/8in pipe going to the glasspack and a 2in out. It has a cherrybomb glasspack.

Difficult to tell, but it looks like it's puffing smoke after the high rev, which could be sucking oil past worn valve guides. How new is your motor? If it's fairly new cylinder head then chances are it's running a bit rich.
 
It is the original engine that was rebuilt about 6,000 miles ago. I think i may need to replace some gaskets not sure though.
