I am not exactly sure if I am asking this question in the right place, but I figure this is as good as any other. Can someone please tell me what the differences are between an stock muffler, and a turbo muffler? Does the turbo muffler really offer any advantages over say a flowmaster or someother baffled muffler? Other than they are typically cheaper. Does one last longer than the other or anything like that? Just curious if there some additional component to the muffler game other than if flows more it is better.

Stock mufflers simply have the most noise reducing and are also the most restrictive. The term turbo muffler i think came about because the stock muffler with the least amount of restriction was at the time (60s? I think) was on a corviar turbo. There a really hundreds of muffler designs that are called turbo mufflers. they rang from not much more than a box with two pipe flanges to multi chamber mufflers.
I prefer dynomax mufflers myself. But it really come down to what kind of music you like to hear. ROAR of a AMERICAN 300+plus engine Or the bumblebee Buzz sound of a Jap 1.6 RICER
