i got my car runnin , it ran ok for a couple days. The battery I was using was one of my friends. He loned it to me to get the car started.and I bought a new battery.
when i hooked the battery up it fryed my battery cableds. So i replaced them. well today it fryed all my wires and when the battery is in the car nothing electrical works. and it wont crank what do u think is the problem.

I know this is a stupid question, but did you make sure you got the polarity right when connecting up the batt. Sometimes on these cars (40 yrs is a long time) people switch cables to whatever will work, and red may no longer be pos and vise versa for black. You may need to verify that the cables are in fact connected to the right polarity connector. It's a longshot, but possible.

Good luck! Hope nothing major got fried!

positive went to the block and negitvie went to the starter relay

Ouch! Reverse voltage only works for light bulbs. Your going to have some problems with your other electrical devices. :(

Backwards dude. :(
Hope the wiring didn't get fried too bad.
Reverse the cables and try to asses the damage. See what works and what doesn't.

crap! all my electrical fryed every thing. I just got the bill on how much its gonna be to replace most of it and its 350 so far.
all of it cought on fire.the person i took it to look at the wires said i was licky i didnt lose my car.

Sorry Dude. :(
He is right, at least you still have your car. Look at it this way, now you can do all those things you wanted to but didn't :D They make reproduction harnesses so that shouldn't be a problem there. It is just the time and work to put them in. Good Luck, and I hope you end up with a better car than before!

Keep us posted!

61falcon,

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. You may be able to buy a new wire harness for less than $350. Check prices with some of the on line catalog suppliers. From the fire wall to the voltage regulator and from the voltage regulator to the starter solenoid are sold separately (I believe). The under dash wire harness is a real PITA. If I have time today I’ll check too and let you know.

That didn't take long.
Falcon Enterprises has them (see web site below) depending on how much got damaged you may need one or all of the following:
http://www.falconparts.com/search_result.asp

HEADLIGHT FEED - 6 CYL - 1960 UNTIL- EARLY 63 This Ford Falcon part is the headlight feed wiring loom for the 1960 - early 1963 Ford Falcon. This loom plugs into the lower firewall connector and runs along the left hand inner fender panel to the radiator core support where it connects to the voltage regulator, horn relay, left hand headlight and left hand park/turn signal wires. It continues across the top of the radiator core support to connect with the right hand headlight and the right hand park/turn signal wires. Price: $149.95

UNDERDASH WIRE HARNESS - 1961 - 62 This Ford Falcon part is an under dash wiring harness for the 1961 - 62 Ford Falcon. This is a New Old Stock part from Ford Motor Company. This part will also fit the 1961 - 62 Mercury comet. Price: $125.00

GENERATOR HARNESS - 6 CYL - LATE 1963 This Ford Falcon part is the generator feed for the 1963 6 cylinder Ford Falcon. It connects to the voltage regulator on the left side of the radiator core support. It runs down the core support and thru an opening in the bottom to the right side where it exits and connects to the generator. Price: $49.95

Or you could have the pro do it.

yea i know i work on my car all the time. every chance i get i work i love my car. i even work on it at 2am some times

If you reversed polarity and fried your harnesses, you'll probably need to replace everything all the way to the fuse box. That includes both underhood harnesses, the underdash harness (I'll second the PITA on that one), and quite possibly your fuse box. I'd also suspect the ignition and headlight switches as they are wired hot at all times.

If you aren't comfortable with doing wiring, this might be a job for a pro. :(

350 smackers is a lot of money. Surely they can be found in junkyards for less, laid out on the floor, cleaned and repaired? I hoard "alternator" Aussie Falcon looms, even chopped up ones, for repair. With a little time and patience, the end result should come in well under $350.

Adam.

Hard to come by over here. Unlike Oz, our Falcons haven't been produced for a long time.

Unless the guy stumbled upon one in a JY, the only other source source would be a vendor or eBay (I do see them there occasionally). Although, he could dump the factory wiring and go with an aftermarket kit from someplace like Painless.

go to ezwiring.com they have a 12 volt complete harness for $160 that is labeled every 5 inches, looks easy to install. you could do it yourself and save a butt load of money.

I am going to use that harness when I re wire mine, don't have time right now, 30 some odd year old wiring should be replaced anyway.

a buddy of mine lost his 68 so to an electrical fire in the trunk while he was driving down the road.
