my holley & the Load-o-matic distributor??

We've talked about this some and I believe the post above is great...but' I am a little worried about putting on the old load-o-matic with the holley on initial start-up and break-in of the new cam. Although the ol' load-o-matic was working fine when I disassembled the engine 5 years ago----yeah! I'm that slow and time is that sparse---. I know that the added vaccuum is for higher speeds so 1) I am sure for the 2000 to 2500 or so rpm I need for cam break-in won't be a problem?? and 2) If I add new points and adjust the dwell correctly the ol' load-o-matic will be fine??? right?. And 3), I also bought my spark plugs for the newer '77 ford head I have on it now not the '65 head that came off of it---am I going to have a problem hooking that ol' L-O-Matic and wires up to it??? These are questions I have read and seen somewhere, but never really thought I would get to the point I would need these answers.... Just goes to show ya! what can happen in a few short years.

It will be fine. You could even run it with static timing; just advance it once the motor starts.

I would see if a you can persuade a friend to drive over in a running car with compatible carby. You only need to borrow it for a coule of hours and hook in the fuel line.

Make sure your battery is fully charged and capable of cranking atight motor, and have some ether on hand.

Remember the distributor gear problems everyone's been having? Don't be next...

That's about it!

Thanks, addo---I have been off the forum for the last month and had not heard of the dizzy gear problems. Did a search on that and read the posts--not too encouraging. I have two duraspark two distributors but don't even want to try to use that with my total lack of electronics and wiring. However, besides using the 15w40 Rotella oil could one use the gear off of one of the newer duraspark dizzies on the shaft of the old Lod-o-matic? Would the newer one be better?

My personal belief, is that the cam gears in new billet grinds are mis-matched. It's why we're having to overcompensate with hardened dizzy gears...

Probably OK for break-in, but after that don't use until you've got the new hardened gear in it.
