Hey guys, I know that my 6 will never be a complete beast, but I wanna get it goin so i can burn a lil rubber and not be a laughing stock, because it looks badass, but its not fast. So, first I plan on putting the headers from ford six on it, and I figured that would be alot more effencient than the exhaust manifold that it has right now (quite rescrictive). So then next im not sure what to do. It has the original carb on it, but it is running rough, it has allready been rebuilt rough, so I will need to replace it in the next lil while, can I put a 2bbl carb on it, and when I do , how much will need to be done, this will be done professionaly. So I just need ballpark, and hows that new head comin from ford six???? Will I feel any diff. from the improved air flow of exhaust, and more from the 2bbl carb. any other suggestions for making power without spending a ton. THanks for reading this long message.

The new aluminum head may be out of your budget for now.....

How much $$$ do you have to play with??

A good, fresh engine with a header, 264 cam, milled head and a Holley 350 will really wake her up!

(or you can turbo like me!)

You have almost the exact thoughts that I did after I drove my car for the first time. What I did was bought a head from a 79 mustang which has bigger valves ($45) and took it to my local machine shop and had some work done to it and I told the machinist to grind it flat so that I could drill hole tap them and bolt a plate to it. The total bill was $250, which included a valve job and fixing a crack, replacing the valve seats and the springs. I then esed a dremel and bored the holes bigger to allow for the plates on the bottom to swivel, and put a holley 500cfm carb (overkill $220) and it was a pretty noticable improvement, but before that I put on a duraspark dizzy (total with module and nec. wiring $65), and then after the head a set of pacemaker headers ($350) and dual glasspacks ($50). I would recommend a 350 holley if you went this route but I figured bigger was better and it was cheaper. The total of this is about 1000 with shipping included, but you mentioned having a shop do yours. I am sure if I had bought the carb off ebay used it would have been less. My next upgrade will be a 246h cam and hopefully that will bump up the horsepower some more, but over all my car is much faster and I think I can take some cars... before I used to take of from a light and hold it to the floor and I would have people pass me regularly driving not knowing I was "racing them" now I can take my friends cars off the line and I think I could take my friend with an integra but we havent raced. much better than stock!

What transmission do you have? If you have the nonsychronized manual 3 spd, a 5 speed sure will help drivability. And will the right gear ratios, will help you spin the tires if that is your desire.
