My Re-Ring job...from bad to worse....

After further examining the teardown of my engine I've found some very interesting things (not good ). I removed all the pistons very easily, and after cleaning and inspecting this is what I found:

1. Broken rings on pistons 2, 3 and 6 ( pistons six had both rings broken)
2. Pistons show scuff marks on the skirts
3. Number 4 piston has some scuff marks on the crown
4. One loose wrist pin
5. Rod bearing show some wear, others you can see the "copper"
6. There appears to be NO blueing or scratching on the crankshaft
7. There doesn't seem to be a ridge on the cylinder, although the ones where the rings were broken are scratched....

Well these are some of my findings, it seems to me a re-build is in order...that kinda sucks....especially this time of the year....

Later guys....

That sounds unfortunate, especially considering what you have to do for new parts. Is the block already bored?

Alex,

How hard is it to get parts down there??? Do you have to order them from the U.S. or do you have to wait until your Mom makes another trip up here to visit to get them, or can you get them locally??

Cheer up....its never as bad as it seems!!!

Thanks for the replies guys....I was pretty bummed yesterday....

My engine was rebuilt 5 or 6 years ago, and my car spent more that half of that time not running for various reason. The broken rings a loose pins are probably my fault due to excesive spark advance and because I've always ran the crap out of this car.
Curiosly enough the cilinders don't show excesive wear, hopefully I can just get away with a honing job.
Parts for this engine you can only get in ONE place, and that's when they're in stock  there's not really a market for "autos antiguos" (vintage cars) here. If they're available they're expensive, sometimes twice of what they cost in the states.
I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they have in stock.
I'll keep you guys posted....

Alex
