Need advice!!!! oops bad news

I just posted the great results of my dyno testing. Everything is going in the right direction, but I just got some bad news...

I have been hearing a ticking, tapping in what I thought was the rockers not being adusted properly. Turns out it's the number 5 Cylinder. Either the piston is loose or the connecting rod is loose....I guess after all of these modifications the bottom end couldn't take it anymore.

Does anyone have some good advice? I've got a couple more car shows for the year I want to be in, then I guess I'll take it back to the shop and have the bottom end rebuilt........I've already got about 2,000 tied up on the mods that I've done so far, including labor.

Anyone????

er...fix it.

seems simple to me if you have all that money in....check the bottom end out and make it stronger...

i know its probably not convenient...never is...

I'm definitely going to fix it...Just don't know which way to go about it.

There is a couple of good deals on ebay for short blocks..May save on Labor....

Have you checked to see if it's just a lifter gone bad? Or have you checked your compression? Or do you think you bent a rod? lot's of possiblities as to what the source of the noise is, some are costly some are just a few dollars and a little labor on your part. Good Luck.....

The only thing you can do is tear it down to see what went wrong. It's a pain in the ass, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I've had to do this more times than I can remember over the years.

I know this may not be the route you want to take, but take a look at this web-site. For those of you looking for a replacement motor check it out too.

These guys seem to have the best prices. I was surprised to see that the 289 was cheaper than the 200.

No chance the #5 counterweight is hitting the pan is it? I had my #6 hitting the pan before. Just an idea.
