Need help! No oil running to head...

I have a '68 170 I bought off a forum member here and recently installed it in my '67 bronco. got it all wired in and it runs but it was very chattery up top. Almost sounded like a diesel. took off the head and didnt see any oil squirting out anywhere.

So what do I do now to start diagnosing? I started to take the pan off to replace the oil pump but i'm just shooting in the dark. I'd like to be able to make some educated diagnoses here...

and FYI, There were no developing knocks down below. We ran it for a few minutes at at time trying to figure out what was up. I didnt realize it wasnt getting oil up top or i wouldnt have even ran it...

Maybe the distributor isn't connected to the pump via the pump driveshaft.
It's easy to pull the dizzy and have that fall into the pan, (knock on wood).

Yep, that'll do it. If you had the distributor out it's a possibility, however you would likely hear some rattling in the crankcase also as you would have ZERO oil pressure if the driveshaft fell into the pan. If you say there are no knocks it is not likely.

Did you drain whatever was in the oil pan and use fresh oil before starting? If not, it could have some old 50 weight in it for all you know, and that stuff might not find its way to the rocker shafts for a long time if its cold.

When you say you removed the head and saw no oil, what does that mean? Did you remove the head and crank the engine with the starter motor? Or did you mean you pulled the valve cover? I'm a bit lost on that one.

If you haven't yet done so yet, remove the distributor, chuck a drill on a socket and spin the oil pump with the drill, clockwise BTW. Have the rocker cover off when you do this and see if there is oil coming from the rocker shafts and what kind of oil pressure you have while spinning the drill.

Ok,

I think i figured it out. theres no rod connecting the dizzy and the pump from what i see. what does that even look like? It def wasnt knocking thank god, but its obvious there probably wasnt any oil pressure. Can you just go buy that connector at the auto store?
