Your engine should be fine if you don't try to boost too much. It would be a good idea to make sure it's tuned up right, good spark plugs and wires, etc. Maybe a compression test to see if there's anything wrong in the cylinders.
You'll have to get some kind of aftermarket computer or chip. The twEECer has been reccommended lately for use with the stock EEC-IV computer. You might need an upgraded fuel pump, again if you keep it at low boost you could be ok. For a margin of safety, you should upgrade the fuel system though. The stock injectors will most likely be maxed out very quickly.
You can make a turbo kit. There really aren't any made since Ak Miller passed on...you might could find one of his old ones but they are rare. Several members here are working on one, but I don't know who has one completed yet. Either get one of the old log exhaust manifolds and make a J-pipe to the turbo or you'll have to make a custom manifold. The EFI manifold would be very tough to adapt to make a turbo work. You'll need assorted piping for the intake charge. An intercooler is suggested as well. Also miscellaneous hardware for the turbo: a wastegate and blow-off valve.
I'd also suggest getting some reading material. This is a subject with a lot of factors that are different with every situation.
Turbochargers by Huch McInness and
Maximum Boost by Corky Bell are the usual reccommendations. The forum at
http://www.turbomustangs.com has a wealth of general turbocharger knowledge, but be sure to search there before you ask a question or you will be flamed. Hard.
