If someone wants to test a new DUI dizzy for a 144/170ci, at a greatly reduced price, send me a PM.

Thanks.

Ha! I'm just whinging 'cause my missus put a lock on my car budget, so as much as I'd love to I'm about 6 months away from having the cash no matter how big the discount.

I hope someone does take up the offer and gives all us small small block fans the good oil on what these things can do for us. The dyno tested increase for the 200 looks pretty sweet. If we can do something similar on the 170 then I'll put in my order when the treasurer allows and ask Mike to pack it with a lovely black rocker cover and three small black ribbed aircleaners in a box and send it over the pacific.

I'd particularly like to see the gain over points as well as over the alternate electric dizzies verified on a dyno.

Already has been, search for posts by mraley.

Can I sign up now to be the tester for the new head?

Actually, we have discussed sending five or six heads out to regular forum members for that very purpose. Preferably those that drive their cars on a daily basis. It would also have to be a member that currently has an OZ head, as they will need to use their existing OZ intake. Since our manifolds won't be ready for 2-3 more months.

We are running off a batch of ten heads in a couple weeks.

And they say you can't get anything from being a smart ass.

I'm all set to test the direct mount 4V carb version of your head!

I think you really need to test this head on a 4X4 daily driver as well. To check for off road capabilities as well as street applications. I just so happen to have a 74 Bronco that is a daily driver and I will make the ultimate sacrifice and use my baby as a test animal for the benefit of all these good people and especially for you Mike. Is that too much sucking up? Did I also mention that my current head has a small crack and needs to be replaced anyway? Hunting season is appon us, the dogs are eager and the trail is calling.

Hello

Have you already found a buyer for the DUI? I sent a PM yesterday and hoping you havent, I am always looking to save money.

Yeah saw that thread wallaka, and it's certainly thought provoking. But the mule wasn't exactly a stock as a rock 170, and the comparisons were all over DII not points if I remember correctly. I don't for a second doubt that the DUI would bring in a few more ponies not to mention smooth out the idle and all the other benefits claimed. I'd just like to know some numbers for a swap more closely resembling my own. I'm about 95% convinced to go this route but the added shipping costs are a bit of a killer for us on this side of the pond, so some data will help seal the deal as it were.

I would assume the HP increase should be more than the measured 8% as there would already have been a gain over points by going to the Duraspark, David's points about the curving of the DII notwithstanding. But does the 170 just not have it in it to realise the gains? Or is it possible that the gains are bigger for the smaller engine (couldn't image why).

Someone else also asked a question I'd like to know - namely if you get the DUI curved for your current set up will you need to recurve when ever you build it up? Like I said my 170 is completely rebuilt but essentially stock (crow 63613 cam the only mod), but I want to add pacemakers and eventually go the offy 3 x 1. Will that change the curve requirements much? If it does then it's probably easier for me to do the other stuff first.

Whatever the numbers a big thanks to Mike for the DUI and all the other cool stuff he's getting together for our engines. Just wondering Mike if you ever thought of getting the offy adapters in stock yourself (or doing a classic inline version)? By the sounds of it they're only a very niche line for Summit/Offenhauser and so stock levels and delivery delays are an issue. I know I'd feel a lot more confident (and hopefully save a bit on post) to be able to make one order from someone for whom the Ford I6 is their bread and butter.

Could you let me know if you got my PM? When I hit the Submit button, the Page times out and I dont get the confirmation.

8) give mike a chance. he noy only has his business to run, as well as the forum, but he also has a regular job that he works at as well.

I apologize for my impertinence; I just got a little excited knowing that my days of sluggish starting and slow driving would be gone with the addition of a new carb, flowmasters, and the new DUI.

I guess the price is the main reason others don’t make the switch to the DUI. It is hard to believe that its as simple as connecting 1 wire.

Just curious, what is the bad side of a Petronics? I read one thread and all that was said it would be the last thing he would put on his engine and another said it was the best because of fast install and no maintenance.

Talking about daily drivers???? Whoa, I volunteer for head testing, I just finished up tweaking the current engine and it really needs a new kick in the a**.

Back to the original topic; I'll sure find "my" 170 block by the time the DUI arrives here...hmmm...am I forgetting something....(shhh, I don't have one, but don't tell Mike)...honestly, it'll test better on a ready engine. Just had to shout aloud to give a sidenote on the head...

can I sign up now to buy your demo fastback when you are done with it?

I can start making payments now...

Do a search on "Pertronx" or "Ignitor". It is bound to pull up dozens of treads.

I would say the board here is pretty much split down the middle on the Pertronix. Many have had no problems with them at all, many (like myself) had nothing but problems with it.

Personally, I pulled the Ingnitor II after a couple of days of messing with it, put the points back in and tossed it in the garbage can...

I have an Ign II, and wouldn't ever go back to points. Put over 10k miles on my Mustang with it. I did have trouble with the first one, but it was my fault. I didn't have the points plate properly grounded, and it overheated the unit within a few hours. Pertronix stood behind the product and replaced it for free, no questions asked. They even sent a 'failure analysis' worksheet with the new unit, showing their diagnostic findings on the failed unit. It basically said I didn't have it grounded properly, which I knew, but hadn't told them. Its been in there for 2 years now, has never missed a beat, and provides noticably better performance and cleaner tailpipe emissions (OTC 5-gas in-flight analyser; lower HC, lower CO, lower O2, moderate CO2 and NOx), and better fuel economy (19-21 hwy vs 16-18 hwy w/ points) on a near stock, 4v 260 v8. Basically, I haven't found any reason to fault the product.

Sorry I didn't reply to any PMs or the topic the past few days. We worked on the project car from early morning till midnight or later (2pm one night) all weekend. So I was exhausted and didn't get online the past three days.
