New 200 Engine and Wheels

Hey....Its been a while since my last post. To bring you up to speed, my last post was about my engine knocking.....Well, what it turned out to be was totally different than any of us thought.

I had a new tranny and high stall torque convertor installed about 2 weeks before the knocking started. I never thought that the problem could have been related. Anyway, the transmission shop noticed that I was missing a flywheel bolt and was "kind enough" to replace it for me. As it turned out the bolt was a little too long and started grinding on the inside of the crank and sent shavings into the block.

Anyway, needless to say the engine was trashed. The good news is that I was able to get the transmission shop to pay for most of the engine. The mechanic that did the work builds Pro-Street and Race engines. Back in the 60's he built a few straight six racing engines. With the mods he did he thinks he added about 25 more horses to the rear wheels. The last dyno before the engine cratered was 95. As soon as it's broken in, we are going to dyno it again. I'll post the results.

Until then, check out the new pics !!!!

nice detail on the engine. I have a question, are you using wheel lug adapters for the wheels? It looked like you used some from the pic, just wondering.

Yes I have a set of 5 lug adapters. They are a two piece set up. You have to trim your lug nuts about 1/4 " to fit properly. If you want more details send me a PM...

The engine bay and engine are amazingly clean and good looking. Those are lug adapters (he got them from me because they were too wide for my falcon)....by the way, did they work out ok?

John...I've still got yours. I ended up getting another set made. Yours ended up being too wide for me. The set I got from you was 1.8 wide and the new ones were 1.2. It doesn't sound like much, but that .6 of an inch keeps the wheels from rubbing....So, if anyone needs a pair, I've got'em

Very nice job, and definitely something to be proud of. Have you hit any car shows or weekend cruises yet?

Mike...I havn't hit any shows yet. Besides car shows don't start in Texas till the middle of March. I was in about a dozen shows last year and won six Class awards. I'm hoping with the new changes and wheels I'll get some more looks...Thanks

OK! Here's a related story then. Back a million years or so(or so it seems) a guy comes in the school shop with a 340 demon and wants these "sox and martin" headers put on. I say fine and start to work. The tie rod ends have to go through the headers so I pull one off. Just about in place and the bracket that runs from the block to the bottom of the bellhousing is in the way. I tell him I can't remove it because it stops the engine/tranny from seperating at the bottom of the bellhousing. He insists. I take them off and install headers.
Less then a week later, he's back saying his engine is knocking. Find out he has loose torque converter bolts. Comes back the following week and they're loose again, only I figure out why. He still won't put them on. One night I'm cruising around and come across this $%^&^% idiot sitting in the parking lot reving the %$#@ out of the engine. He's pissed because they sheared off so in anger mats the gas pedal. The engine only got to about 5-6000 before I pulled him out his window punching him as hard as I could. I broke his nose and chipped a tooth and told him I would kill him if he did it again. (we were both in highschool at the time) I put a cam in it earlier in the year and had emotional attachment to it I guess. I still don't like idiots abusing an engine though for any reason.
Man, still gets the blood pumping just remembering that.
