No pink wire in painless harness?

Some of the DSII's (later model) also used a straight 12V. So you need to look up the spec.'s for the DSII control box # you are using.

I know up thru 78 DSII you need the ballast resistor (1.4ohms). No nothing about anything later than that. It will work without, but will overheat coil.

ok thank you guys..well i dont have a ds2 or dui yet so i hope it will last until i can get all the pieces and resistor looks like junkyard trip is in order or dropping big money on Mikes set up that comes with a resistor but i would still need another ballast resistor to stop the constang 12v. Decision time. Always something new to worry about.

An ignition resistor from a 12 v system to drop volts 6 to 8 (example you can get one for a 1957 Ford). Run your 12v wire source to one side of the ignition resistor. Run wire from other side of the resistor to coil post. Run a second wire to same coil post to solenoid I term.

and carry a spare resistor with you. my truck once had one break on me. so i bypassed it and ran full 12v through the points, it started acting up after about 5 miles, but managed to limp home.

I hooked up my resistor and it seemed to have no effect I tested again and it's still running 12v all the way?

i would expect it to have full 12v with the engine off, key on, but under the load of the coil with the engine running, it should drop several volts. if you feel a need to test this before its running, try putting a headlight bulb between the resistor and a ground and monitoring the voltage under that load

That's what's got me confused because it's opposite, it's got 6v when the engine is off and key is just on. When the engine turns on it kicks up to 12v even when I give it gas. When I'm driving I don't know but when it's in neutral it's still 12v. I did take it for a longer drive last night and everything seemed fine timing, the carb is running great.
