what a good normal operating temp for a 250 6? i'm so use to V8's and new cars with idiot guages i have no idea whats an avg temp is for a i6.

165? 180?

200?

210 = blow head gasket?

Many people seem to like a thermostat in the 180-190° area. The coolant system is a little fussy about air trapping, so make sure (if you tinker with the 'stat) that you have a way of bleeding air.

thanks but

i know about the thermostat dealo, i'm running a 160. but i'm wondering what temp would ideal either with a 180 or a 160 thermo? cuz just becuase you run a 160 don't mean the car will run 160.

so kinda wanna know what an ideal temp would be for a I6.

thanks

I believe cobra six or mustang six was mentioning that these cars do not run %100 correctly unless there operating at 180-190 temps.. if you have a good radiator/waterpump and a 160 thermostat yer car might not go above 160 depending where yer located to.. but if you live in florida like me it doesnt really matter my car runs at about 180-190 with a 160 stat.. btw, how would you properly bleed the air out of yer coolant system? I usually let it flow while im filling it until I can get the air bubbles out..

Drill one 1/8" hole in the thermostat outer lip/housing (the big round flat piece) helps bleed the air out while filling. Have a good one.

ok that would make more sence then. so 180's should be fine..and perform best at that temp. i found that my other v8 cars when dynoed they ran best under 180. anything above 180 the car lost horsepower and tq.

reason why i'm asking is i really don't like to see my v8s go past 180.. when i see that and if i'm in traffic all it does is get hotter and hotter and hotter. so when the car stays at 160 or 170 i very happy. so again was just wonder what the best was for this engine.

thanks!
