Not Finding a replacement for lost balancer bolt

So my machinist lost my center bolt for the balancer and I have spent this entire week looking for a replacement....

To no avail....

Seems like this is one of the harder parts to find....
I have tried all of my local and nearby Mustang dealers and I found one but the guy wants an insane amount of money for it.

I went to a local thread shop and we came up with this...

The bolt was easy I got a grade9 bolt that will work.... it is 1.5 inches in length as opposed to the 1 5/8" but I think with a little Loc-tite that should not matter.

The hard part is the plate or washer.... it is 9/16" inner diameter, 1 3/4" outer diameter and 5/16" thick... I have found two thinner washers (1/8" thick) that are the right diameter but I am not sure about stacking these? and even then I am only getting 1/4" worth of space....

ARP makes these but only for V8 apps....

Now the ARP washers are 1/4" which is what the two above would be if combined.
(I also know that ARP hardware is stronger than these two washers I have....)
I have been told not to stack these, what about JB welding them together first?
do you think I can get away with using these peices?
Remeber my engine has a redline of 6000+ rpms... so I am concerned...
(Maybe I should spring for the original peice....)

I really just wanted to solve this today. I could be driving tomorrow if it was not for this.

Any thoughts on what I might try next? or places....

8) the 1/8" less length wont matter at all. as for the washers, those look like grade 5 washers, and i think you should get grade 8 ones, or get a third grade 5 to maintain strength. you can epoxy or jb weld them together if you like.

i redrill all my 200 cranks to the 5/8-18 thread size and use the V8 crank bolt. the arp bolt comes with a washer too.

Sounds like a trip to the local 'Automotive Recycling Center' is in order.

Or drill and tap it for the V-8 bolt.

I never thought about drilling it out... I would not do that on the engine though... I would have done that done prior to balancing the crank, wish I had thought about it.... I could never keep it straight and I cannot get a drill in there now without removing the front end of the car.... (it's a long story... but my AC cooler will only fit in there if you remove the bumper and grille.... and I am not going that route, too painful)

however on a little better note...

I finally found a 200 in a local yard...
Going to pull it in the morning with a breaker bar and a sledge.

Too bad anout that V8 ARP bolt... would have been better....
(and yes these are grade 5 washers... all the more reason to get the right one!)

is that the same as the "center for the re-use of non-new transportation"

So I pulled one off a Fairmont this morning...

When I walked out the yard and came upon my victim I was a little worried...
This 200 has been sitting in the elements with no hood on the Fairmont for some many, many, many years.

It was a lovely rust colored engine... however the engine was almost entirely untouched. Even the Autolite 1100 was sitting on the intake. Stock alternator and radiator, hoses still there, but rusted over completely.

I put a breaker bar on the nut and gave it a whirl, and the assmebly rotated nicely to my suprise... it even had comression... how about that. The guy even said the car has been sitting there at least ten years.

Now for the hard part... I had some heavy duty screwdrivers to jam in the balancer so I could break this thing, but none of them would fit unless I removed the radiator and the bolts on there were in worse shape than this one. So I jammed two carb studs I had in the trunk one on each side and proceeded to break them off.

(I was alone by the way...) so I started wandering around the car smoking a cig and taking a break... (I had played with the screwdriver and studs for a while now...) I even rammed one of the larger screwdrivers through the radiator into the balancer and behind the oil pan flange and it just bent the tip.

So standing there smoking I look down at my feet and there is a large head bolt. YES! score... jammed that in there and bang it broke free and I was on my way home with the last missing part to my completed engine...

$2.00 out the door.

Smiled the whole way home.
