Oil leak

I seem to be leaking oil from somewhere around the crank balancer. It only really does it after driving a bit. Was this a common problem? What are my options? It doesn't leak a whole lot, and it would suck to have to pull the motor (it is my daily driver). Any words of advice would be welcome. Thanks.

HI
It could be 3 places the oil pan, timming chain cover or the crank seal. you could start by tightening the bolts on your pan, and timming chain cover and see it that stops it.. don't over tighten..

If it's the crank seal, am I gonna have to remove the engine? I'm almost positive it's not the timing chain cover or the oil pan, it's definately spraying out (to some degree) when I'm driving as sometimes there is oil on the air cleaner and alternator.

The crank seal is in your timing chain cover. So you would have to remove that to change the seal. If this is your first time doing it? Plan a full Day and make sure you read up on it first and buy or rent a harmonic ballance puller.

So I can change the seal without pulling the engine? That's excellent. I've never done this job before but I believe I can handle it. Sounds like the radiator will have to come out though. That's a pain in the arse. Are there any specific pit falls or tips anyone can share? Thanks again people.

Yes you will have to pull the radiator, so the harmonic ballancer puller will fit. Buy a timing cover gasket kit. The one from NAPA is very complete with the seal and new pieces for the front of the oil pan. The rest is just wrenching and cleaning surfaces for new gaskets. But do buy a manual.

FIRST! Make sure your pcv valve or road tube, which ever you have is working. Either of those can cause pressure in the crankcase and force oil by a seal.
