oil over filling

Hi everyone hey Ive cut 30mm off the bottom of my sump also changed the oil pick-up to match(4.1 crossflow) its in a jet boat and I wanted it lower for drive shaft angle.
Now the question I have is just how much can I over fill with oil? to make up for this.
Sure when its just running at 1000rpm the crank may pick up some oil but when at revs this extra oil would be working its way around the guts of the engine?

Its only just been set up and after taking it for a run I noticed a sound that sounded like a rattle almost like a bolt lose type noise from the front of the engine area (3000rpm+) I wondered if it could have been the oil pump running low on oil, oil pressure looked stable through out tho.

Is the engine horizontal?
You cannot usually overfill the sump as the crank will dip into the oil and foam it up, not to mention the drag. a better way would be to extend the sump sideways and crate a flat bottom pan with the capacity you need. The amount of oil circulating in the engine wont change very much with the rpm, and the oil should NEVER touch the crank.
Id suggest you have another look at it.
The noise may be oil being flung about by the crank.

At this stage I haven't overfilled just wondered if I could. oil pressure hangs around the 40/45psi mark stable(new mechanical gauge set up)
Yep the engine is level in the hull when at rest when I plant boot the front comes up,thats more a matter of me moving some weight more forward to try and get more forward momentum rather than heading skyward.
I did ask for the sump to be more square on the bottom when I had it cut and welded, when I picked it up the guy said he didn't cause it was a lot more work and that it was only like a cup full of oil capacity less anyway.

I have replaced the timing chain and sprocket with a new genuine ford twin chain set.

It only makes the rattle lose bolt type noise when under load, with the jet drive shaft disconnected and revs at 3000rpm its smooth and quite as.

mmmmm not going to be a easy rattle to work out, Guess the water pump is up front on it but I wouldn't have thought that would be the cause, It could do with a new one just wasn't in budget just yet so I put the existing one back on for now while its still working.

will try that over the weekend stubby & let you know how it goes. the light I have for setting it isn't the best I do it as close by ear as what the light shows 8-12deg

what sump are you running? a falcon has the front sump but a cortina has a rear sump so if your not using a cortina sump maybe its the go?then when you plant it all the oil goes into the rear pickup and rear sump?

:D Noticed that you said that the motor is smooth AND quiet with the jet pump shaft disconnected!!!!!!!!!!!!! Try checking out the shaft and assoiated parts for bent items.
