Oil Pump Drive Shaft/Pump

Hey Guys,

I pulled out my old dizzy last weekend in the hopes of getting my 78 Fairmont dizzy installed for the DS2 Upgrade. The new dizzy wouldn't slide on to the oil pump drive shaft though. I took a closer look at the shaft and it looks like the PO hax-sawed part of the shaft off. So I went to summitracing.com to look for a new one but all they carry is the shaft for a V8. Any idea where I can get a new oil pump drive shaft? Will it be easy to replace this part?

Since I am going to be replacing this part and my oil pan, I decided to replace my oil pump and pickup. Any recommendation on parts and where to get them?

Thanks!
Mike

Let's see, in California, I liked Kragen Auto Parts. Melling IS-65B is the part you're looking for. A pickup magnet should pull it right out, but if you're going to drop the pump, it will come right out with it. I've also used heavy grease to hold the shafts into the dizzy and then install the distributor. I find it easy to install the shaft into the pump when installing a distributor, than trying to install the distributor when the shaft is already in the pump.

The parts guy...

If you are in Southern Cal, LA area, you can get a used oil pump drive shaft from the Pull-Your-Part wrecking yards. There's one in Sun Valley, Wilmington, and Anaheim (I think). In San Diego, there's one on the way to Browns Field and theres one in Bakersfield.

In Wilmington, there are actually two yards not too far away from each other and there ar eplenty of 200 I6's to choose from.
