Ok, I am slowly rebuilding my engine. I haven't been able to find the gaskets for my oil pump anywhere. Do I have to make the gaskets or is there a place where I can get them? Also, tappets = lifters, right? Are there any high performane or brand that is good in quality? I could hear my lifters rattling early when my car was still running. Arg.

im guessing you have tried all the nomal places right?? napa, shucks? they dont have gaskets for the oil pump?? i know it comes with there re-build kits..... on the lifters you need hydro's i like comp cams they usually have a good selection and it depends on what you wanna do with it.. do you want torque or hp more??? you should also be sure to get some that will work well with the cam you have. is it a stock cam??? 252, 272?? what kind of lift?

Pony, Which gasket are you referring to ? I believe there is one gasket between the cap and body and 1 gasket to attach the pick-up tube, but I don't believe there is a gasket where the pump mounts to the block.

when I took my oil pump off, there were two gaskets: 1 at the block and 1 at the pick-up tube with the screen. No one locally has one. I found an high performance shop half hour from where i live. I'll call them monday since something called Easter came around. As for the camshaft, I really don't know. The engine was rebuilt and it looks like the pistons are 30 over and I can only assume that its a stock camshaft.

I also have been unable to find an oil pump gasket? If you find a source for one post it here, so I can buy one too.

You will find them in oil pump O/H kits, engine rebuild (= full) gasket sets, and maybe with new oil pumps. At any rate, they are thin and easy to make out of gasket paper.

Regards, Adam.

If you want to , you could use a thin film of gasket maker, I have 2 complete rebuild kits for these engines and also bought 2 new pumps, and neither came with a block gasket. Addo is right if you want to use one, make it from gasket material.

You will have to forgive its upsidedownness, just imagine you are working on it on an engine stand..

I bought a roll of felpro gasket paper a while back when the local parts stores said I had to order an '66 1100 carb gasket. They also have "hollow punches" if you are interested in getting the holes exactly round, otherwise I used the knife on my leatherman to open all 3 holes in my replacment gasket.
