Does the oil slinger on the front of the crankshaft/timing gear sling oil on the timing chain ?
I am assembling a 78 200 and the slinger is missing. Where would I find one if needed ?

Jim in Atlanta

i would think it would sling it away from the front of the crankshaft where the balancer bolts on to prevent oil leekage

check page 103 (at least it's 103 in the '08 version) of the National Parts Depot catalog (check 'em online at NPDlink.net )
their part number is Q6310, but that is for a small block, they might have one for a six cylinder

the toll free number for their florida warehouse is 800 874-7595
the North Carolina one is 800 368-6451
one of those is 24hr/7 days a week, but i forget which

if those don't have any luck, check on Virginia Classic Mustang, they have been excellent to me, and more of a help than anyone else

if those don't help, i might know a guy

Thanks for the references.

I was told on another forum it may not be needed; purpose was to keep front seal from leaking. New seal material may not require use of slinger ???
I have always instald when assembling, but this one was taken apart by someone else...

Jim

i hate oil covered engines, and new seals eventually turn into old seals, so i would install it
but that's me, and that's if you can find it

Jim, i just dismantled a 66 engine & it had a slinger.

As seal material improved i do not see them come in later engines.

I do not run a slinger on mine & there is no oil leakage. Bill

Thanks Bill,

I see instructions for some double row timing sets that can not use a slinger.

Working on a 77 200 by the casting numbers. Supposed to have come out of a 68 Mustang ! Previous owner did a very good job of bagging and tagging all the parts. Damper and slinger are the only pieces that were missing. Distributor in the parts box is the early short one with 1/4 pump shaft of wrong year.

Mark,

Thanks for the offer. By popular vote, I don't need it in there and am hoping to get the motor swapped by this w/e.
If all works out, the 200 will be in my '63 Econoline and driven to Carlisle in a few weeks and up to Almyer Ontario the following w.e.

Hey good luck on the drive to carlisle , i should be there on friday. Its only a 30-45 min drive for me according to traffic. You run into any trouble give me a call.

Mark

Where in Atlanta are you? I think I have one I took out of my '69 motor somewhere. I know a junkyard with a lot of early Falcons where you could probably pull one as well.

My '78 motor didn't have one so I didn't worry about it.

This is a 77/78 motor, so may not have had one.

I'm in Douglasville on the west side of Atlanta past Six Flags. The Wife's Sister lives in Statham and I sometimes go to the Year One Brasseltom Bash.
