Original 223 Color

Hey all. I have a 61 F100 with a 223 I am resto-modding. I do want to paint the engine the original colors. Any idea what that is? The motor right now is some shade of reddish-orange, but it looks like there was blue under that. I am going to be looking for advice on makin this baby run better once I dive into getting this truck on the road. Thanks for any help.

As long as the other forum was aware, the truck and car engines were usually different colors back then.
For 61, I show the 223 as black w/red vc for the car, no info on truck.
However I do show the truck 292 as all red for 61, whereas the car was black iron, red stampings.

For 58-59, I show the 223 truck as yellow from this post:

Again I am not sure it seems odd yours is now a reddish color, I'd double check. Amazing how hard it can be to find color info. :(

as far as I know it's black engine and red valve cover, and the red is really "chevy orange" I doubted it myself when I first heard it but what paint was left on my valve cover matches the chevy orange perfectly.

I also have a 1961 F100 with the 223. If the block is black and valve cover is orange, is the air cleaner housing black or orange?

This is an old post, but my 1961 M100 blk and vc are both classic ford blue, I have yet to re-paint and where the old blue paint has chipped there is no color underneath so I think it is the original paint job.... :hmmm:
