and it starts... we put my friend's maverick under the knife yesterday. we started pulling stuff off so we can pull the motor. compression tests on all cylinders produced widely varied results. time for a motor rebuild. question... what type of cam should we go back with? we want to give the 250 a little more pep without getting too radical. he wants a daily driver (its his only car). but he also wants to keep up with atlanta traffic (avg. +20 over speed limit). we want to produce more torque on bottom end. we thought about the truck cam for the 250 but i havent had a great deal of time to research the differences. has anyone here upgraded their cam shaft on their 250? what were the results? if nothing else, we want the motor to be stronger and last longer than the original stock 250. he's the second owner. his grandparents cooked the motor once or twice. they ran it out of coolant. when he got it, it already had the compression problems and some foam/oil in the coolant. on the topic of a header, i think we might go with the stock exhaust manifold for now until he saves up some more bucks. that is a great idea though! i'll definately suggest it to him for future upgrades. we don't know what parts we will have to purchase for the rebuild until we get the motor out today or tomorrow and mic the parts. we both feel a little better getting a new master rebuild kit from P.A.W. (yes they have 250 stuff!!!). thats some big bucks though. $650 for the kit with an extra $140 for custom balancing = $900. its a nice kit though. it comes with cam crank rods pistons rings bearings gaskets lifters and timing chain/parts. they let you choose what cam you want when you place the order. thats our big hang up for now.
what cam should we co with?
