Hi

I installed the Pertronix on my 6 cylinder engine and it workds fine but seems to run a little quick.
Is this normal and what do I need to do to remedy?

The only way your engine will run faster with something like the petronix is if the timing changed or you made a vacuum leak. Did you hookback up or damage the vacuum line going to the dizzy? Did you have the dizzy out or loose when you made the change? Had you done much work or driven the car much before this change? Did you change/ fix anything else while you were doing it? I suppose that its possible that things were so bad.... but that would have to have been bad to the point where the thing bareley ran, if thats the case you should have took pictures and sent it to them for an ad!

Ahhh.. Reset the timing, thats logical since the trigger device changes. If thats the case then you for sure need a timing light to do this swap, did it say that in the directions?

It's not just the timing. The engine will idle faster with the Pertronix so you have to back off the idle setting.

Up to 15% of the fuel in a conventional ignition goes unburned according to David Vizard. Now you have a bigger and more dependable spark so you are burning more fuel all together. This translates in the first instance to a higher idle.

If you have a vacuum meter, adjust the timing until it is above 18 lbs and set the idle back. Then you can check it with your timing light and a dwell tach. Don't be surprized if the mark on the damper has slipped, so you might end up having to re-locae TDC. When you do, mark it with a white pen on the outer ring.

yeah, it's normal. I had to retime and carb adjust afterwards as well. Been thrilled ever since I did it too. Great upgrade. Be sure to do the plugs (.50), wires (8mm) and coil (40,000v or more) too.
