Pictures of cracked exhaust manifold

Here are a couple of pictures of the exhaust manifold that was on the 200 in my 66 stang when I bought it and first got it running. It had a leak but it didnt seem that bad. The rest of the system was also bad so thats most likely why it didnt seem that bad. I could see the small cracks (in yellow) and was thinking that I may not replace it yet because of time/money and the chances that the bolts/studs may not want to come out.

At the last minute I decided to order a new manifold along with my new system just to be done with it. Here is what I found! Now I know why the choke housing was melted and the carb was all plugged up with carbon. That thing in the big middle port is supposed to be a solid tube that goes from the top to the bottom to heat fresh air for the choke. I was glad to find that problem because I then knew what 'killed the motor' and one of the reasons the guy sold the car.

TJH, I have a couple of exhaust manifolds laying around that have the same similar problems as your manifold. The crack shown in the first picture at the top (close to the tailpipe connection) is on mine as well; even though I am not sure whether the crack actually goes all the way through the casting or is only in the casting fin!??? But the exhaust tube (for the automatic choke) looks the same as mine; seems to be a common defect with the age of the manifold. I know you said that you already ordered a new manifold, and I am assuming a stock manifold since you didn't say otherwise; but I ordered a 68' or later manifold for my 66' 200cid since it appears to be a little beefier than the earlier manifolds. Good Luck! Jim

This was all last fall, I just got around to posting the pictures. I got the stock replacement for a 66 that looked pretty much the same. It was around $129 from one of the mustang places.

Anyone ever try one like this?

Im not sure if this is the place that usually has them listed but there always seems to be one for sale on Ebay for around $75. I wonder if thats the wholesale price for the $129ish one the mustang folks sell? There cant be too many people casting orignal repro ones.

Just now when I did a search for that one I noticed several sets of headers for sale at the moment. I searched 'ford 200' may be worth a look if you are in the market for a set.

I am plain speechless. That is the most eroded and cracked manifold I've ever seen from these motors.

My manifold was cracked much worse than the one that you have here. I have a 67 200 I6 Mustang and the two center ports give out too much heat and crack the stock mainfold. If you switch to dual port headers the heat will be distributed a little more evenly and give less wear to the engine. Also, with headers, the engine has a little more power as well.
