Pistons with nitrous

I am looking for pistons I can use with a 100 shot of nitrous, Am I correct in assuming that Hypers will not stand up to using NOS? I am under the impression that I need Forged pistons, or will cast work? That roughly 375 horses pounding on them.

I read that 100 shot is max for cast pistons.

Thats what worries me, I dont think hypers are any better. I dont want to bust a piston in half ripping through the 1/4. I have heard that KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK before and it makes you wanna throw up. I am currently looking into Forged. I think I can make a set of 351s work, also Im contacting a company that makes forged flat top and dome 300 pistons, they may cost a lot more, but better safe than sorry.

I am not sure of what application you are using the pistons in but something like a 5.0 with cast pistons and a 100 shot is no problem. I have been running a 150 hp shot on my stock-ish (stock head, transmission, bottom end, cam) 5.0 stang no problems but I am running it nice and safe.

8) as long as you dont run into detonation, you can run cast pistons with no problems. its when detonation happens that cast pistons start to break. the problem with nitrous is that unless you a bit richer than you normally would, any issue with fuel delivery will cause the engine to run lean enough to burn a piston or two. hypereutectic pistons are stronger than regular cast pistons, and will last longer, but not much. forged pistons are the way to go if you run nitrous in my opinion.

Agreed 100%. On my former Mustang with stock pistons and 10.25:1 Compression. 2004 Mach1, I had the pistons coated at Swain Technologies and was able to shoo 150 frequently. But, the tune was changes using the diablo sport giving much more fuel at 4200RPM when the bottle was used! The only problem with me was to make sure that the switch was not lit prior to that RPM. On the mach 1, with 4.10 gears, getting to 4200 was never a problem.

Cheers

I started of spraying above 3000 rpms, and ran a few bottles that way. Then started getting a little happy and spraying at 2500 or so and hooked up a WOT switch as well as a window switch to start and stop between whatever rpm I chose. The last few times I took it out I was spraying off the line. only did it twice as I didn't have a fire suit and didn't want to lose my privileges. stock 5.0 115,xxx miles.
