I was putting the oil pressure gauge in, the temperature sending unit, and some of the vacuum connections and was wondering if I should use some teflon tape around them or just tighten them and hope they seal?
Just a word to the wise on teflon tape. Do not use it on fuel lines as the gas will break it down. Small pieces will eventually make it into your carb and you will not have fun then!
And the other warning about teflon tape is you cant/shouldnt used it on 1 wire sending units because they have to ground through the threads. I think back in the day there was a special conductive paste for the senders but I have not seen it lateley and most senders have more than one wire so its not an issue.
Isnt there a form of teflon tape that was made for fuel? I know its not the $1 roll you get at the home store.
I didn't use any sort of sealer on my temperature sender (for the reason given above, the sender grounds to the block through the treads) and I didn't have any sort of leak.
As for Teflon tape and fuel lines...I wouldn't do it. All it takes is a tiny bit of tape to break loose and get sucked into you carb and it will be rebuild time. Permatex makes a thread sealer that is safe for fuel...
