Problem car today

All,

I need some advice. Here are the vitals and what happened.

I took the car to work today, about 24 miles. I just put an electric choke on the carb (Holly 350 CFM) to solve a cold start problem. It worked like a champ, it s been in the 30s with no problem starting. I drove her the yesterday around town with no problems. It drove fine all the way to work. Then when I started to pull into our gate, it seemed to hesitate a little. Then as I turned in the parking lot it wanted to cut off if I let off the gas. I went out at lunch...now in the 50s checked the carb and the choke was mostly open. I cranked it and it started right up but required me to keep above 2000 rpms. I let it run for a couple of minutes but you could tell it was missing. She usually ideals pretty smooth. I backed off the gas and she stayed running but seemed to won't to shut off. It was not stumbling per se but rather hesitating/missing. I drove her home and it was running fine at all speeds but hesitating.

1.) I checked to make sure no visible vacuum leaks or hoses off.
2.) I made sure choke was not engaging
3.) I made sure distrb was tight and all spark plug wires were secure.
4.) I did loosen dstrib and rotate clock wise and the engine ideal up but hesitating was still there.
5.) I went in the other direction and engine idle down still hesitating.
6.) I set idle at 1500 to make sure I got home and set it back down without it cutting off but still hesitating.

Any advice would be appreciated.

8) holleys can be notorious for internal vacuum leaks, and running rich. did the engine backfire during cold operation recently? perhaps more than once or twice? if so then the power valve may be toast. also make sure the float level is set right, it should be just below the site plug with the engine running. you might also have an ignition timing issue. advance the timing until you get detonation under load, then back off a couple of degrees. you may also have a combination of all three issues. one more thing, if you still have the LOM distributor, dump it and get you a duraspark system.

I guess what I don't understand is it was running fantastic yesterday and before that. The engine has been freshly rebuilt.

I have not had a backfired at all and she still starts right up. You just cant let off the gas right away or it cuts off. Then after holding it above 2000 you can let off the gas. But the hesitation is still there. Its like a rough idel not ot the point of stubling. I did advance the distrib but still there. Also, I do have a duraspark.

I'm not familiar with Holleys but it sounds like the choke is too far open. It should be closed at start up regardless of the temp. I'm assuming that you can adjust the choke. I personally adjust the choke so it "just" closes when its 70F out.
