I have a 76 Maverick, 250 and C4 auto. The problem is confusing to me....
First off, I have tuned the engine, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel pump, filter, air filter, and cleaned out the gas tank and added a fuel filter to the fuel sending unit.
Now my problem is when driving down the road, about 30 minutes, the engines starts sputtering and wants to die. Then after loosing a few mile per hour the engine eases back up to speed. Then it runs great again for about another 15 minutes and then it acts up again.
The electronic module is a Duraspark and I have no idea how old the coil is. Please help I really need to get this car going.
Thanks,
Ken

HEY KEN

.....TRY MOVING THE COIL OFF THE MOTOR AND ON THE FENDER. IF IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING THEN IT MUST BE FUEL.

.....MY DAD HAD A CAR THAT WORKED FINE ON THE FLAT. WHEN HE WOULD GO UP A HILL FOR MORE THAN A MILE IT WOULD RUN HICK UP AND TRY TO RUN OUT OF GAS.

.....YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR FUEL PRESSURE AT THE CARB. BAD FILTERS WILL BLOCK GAS AFTER A WHILE. WEAK FUEL PUMPS WILL ALSO GIVE YOU YOUR PROBLEM. HAPPENING WHEN IT GETS HOT MIGHT BE SOMETHING TOO.

.....HOPE THIS WILL HELP YOU FOCUS AND WORK THRU THIS PROBLEM.

Hey Leroy,
This problem happens on level ground. I am wondering if the electronic module is going bad.

Hey I got the same car! If you have doubts about the coil get a new one, they are like $12 so dont let that be the weak link in your engine. It might not be your specific problem but will save you some headache later.

Well, after taking the duraspark box to Auto Zone and letting them test it, the box had a leakage problem. So I bought a new dura spark box,Auto Zone p/n, F102 and a new Coil C832G. The car runs great now.Tomorrow I will be changing the Valve cover gasket.
I hope this helps.
