Rear Main Seal Question

Is there a 2 piece Rubber Seal to circumvent the rope Seal ?

8) i do believe there is, just get one from something like a 3.3l from a fairmont.

I'll check on that. Is the rear main casing designed to be able to handle it like it was a rope?

Must've been a '78. Are you installing it yourself?

Damn parts store had the same part number form 1960 to 1983 and there were no superceeded rubber seal part numbers EVEN THOUGH I pulled OUT a rubber seal!!!

That's fine though. My crank has not the smooth surface that is good for the rubber seal it's got the oil slinging grooves cut into the surface that slowly eat away at the rubber seal.

So I installed a rope seal about and hour ago....

I have the Ford part # off the rubber seal if anyone needs it.
