Rebuild Kits

Was looking into rebuilding the 170ci in my Bronco and wanted a little input from the people here. I've never done any of this before and was wondering about the rebuild kits on the market. From a quick search on the net both Flatlander Racing and Green Bay Parts World have kits that are close in price. I didn't see any "kits" per say from Inline Classics, which seem to be very reputable and forward thinking which I wouldn't mind ordering from. Maybe I will just contact them by e-mail or drop them a line. When you guys have rebuilt your engines, did you do it from a kit or did you put the pieces together yourself? If you guys have links to other web sites with kits or have ideas for me, please post them. The more input the better.

FYI – I am looking for a medium to hot rebuild, that is much more on the medium side of things. I want to end up with a well built engine that is reliable enough for me to feel good about taking into the hills for many years to come.

Thanks

Inevitably some parts are just easier to get from Mike, but inmy case I got parts from him, ebay, local parts stores, and my machinist supplied the pistons, and whatever else I couldn't come up with, or had wrong.

Mike has the double roller timing chain, the moly rings. the cam, etc...

You may be inclined to keep your 170 for originality but just an idea for you. My 66 Bronco had a 170 and I ran across a good running 200 for about $125. Did the clutch as long as the engine was out and had an instant performance upgrade for about $200 and few hours of labor. This was 15 years ago and I was not smart enough to get the DSII out of the donor vehicle. Still it was enough to notice when driving. Or if you can find a 200, build that motor so no down time with your Bronco. Nice to see more people with six cylinder Broncos. Good luck to you.

my 200 is at the machine shop right now. i went through classicinlines.com for my pistons, cam, rockers, and head/intake. the machine shop is providing the bearings/gaskets. i got my header from clifford performance and my carburetor from summit. oh, and i picked up my clutch from tom's bronco parts.

check out the tech section on classicinlines. the compression ratio chart on there is really helpful.
