Rebuilding my 200

I'm going to start rebuilding my 66 200. My block is a c6de but the head is c3de. Is this a 170 head? I was thinking about looking for a head with the larger log ( I plan on direct mounting a 2v carb) and understand they have a larger combustion chamber and will have to be milled to go on a 66 block. I'm just curious if I got a complete 80-83 200 would I still need to mill the head? I plan on a t5 swap also will a v8 t5 bell bolt up, with some modifcations, to this like the aod will? Kinda new to the forum and have been reading alot trying to understand it all, I like doing all my home work and knowing what I'm doing before I just jump in.

1) Not sure about the head code TBH. I stopped worrying about the log heads awhile ago.

2) Milling? Don't plan on it. Before you assume you need the mill a head, you really need to measure the combustion chamber first. There is a fair chance the head has been milled at least once already. The larger combustion chambers don't require a milll job. It'll lower compression ratio, but again, verify before assuming. Plus, if you ever want to do force air, the lower compression is desired.

3) The V-8 bell will not bolt up. There are however, adaptor plates now on the market for the 6 cylinder bellhousings. I think darkhorse is the one that has them now, but their website isn't working.

the low starter 200s will partally bolt up to a v8 bell.the four bottom bolts line up.to me with a hundred horsepower 200 compared with a 300 hp 302 with six bolts, four bolts may be enough.the falcon handbook tells how to do the top two bolts.milling a head is no big deal since the valves already have to be machined.using a 82 head on a 82 block doesn't require milling but milling will raise compression for more power.if i knew then what i know now i would have started with a low starter engine.
