Recaliberating a Tach

Anyone know how to recaliberate a Ford tach from a Mustang II? I have a V8 tach that I want to put in a I-6 Maverick.

Not sure on a Mustang II but on my 79 Fox body Capri's and Mustangs with factory tach under the instrument cover there was a slot that you could stick a flat screwdriver into and turn the setting from 4cyl, 6 cyl, to 8 cyl.

My 1979's had them but not sure when it started. Might be worth taking a look.

The MII tach has a "signal control circuit board" to the back of the tach assy, that "halves the 8 cylinder ignition pulses to the tach that allows it to be used as a 4 cylinder tach". This description is out of the manual. The interesting thing is, nothing mentioned about a V6.
I've read adding a potentiometer, which is what you are adjusting, parallel to a resistor, will allow me to adjust the tach. I was hoping I could get someone that has done this mod, to any tach, could back this suggestion up. Also, are there different sized potentiometer I can get at Radio Shack? If so, can someone suggest a size? I'm no electrical engineer, not even close.

No doubt you can get a potentiometer or possibly a resistor to make this work.

I have no idea as to exactly what you need, though :roll:

I spoke to a couple of companies that recalibrate gauges, they want ~200.00. I am trying to save a little money.
