hello. ready to replace timing gears and chain, on my 64 falcon 170 2sp. what i would like to know is, do i have to remove the oil pan? removal and replacement information will help, THANK YOU FOR REPLY'S. 8) CHEERS

No you don't have to remove pan. The timing gasket kit will have two stubby gaskets for the oil pan.
You'll cut the old ends off.

I didn't have to take the oil pan off when I timed my 200ci, I took the valve cover off and was able to pri the crank sproket off with a wench, was actually very simple. when you put it back together I recomend adding some RTV silicon sealer, just in case.

hello, removed the timing cover, expecting to find bad chain or gears because of loud noise, chain and gears are in great shape, noise was a broken oil slinger, Can i do with out it, or fix it reinstall it in which direction? my manual does not show parts assembly, did not remove oil pan. 8) cheers

Some run without, I most always use them if have it. To me it's hard to install them wrong I guess someone could put one on backwards if they tried hard.

:hmmm: Here is a good picture of one installed correctly. After the timing gear set before timing cover. Than when the crankshaft dampener is installed and bolt torqued down the dampener pushes it tight against the crank timing gear and front main. If it's installed backwards it would make a heck of a noise rubbing against the timing chain :tabu:

hello the oil slinger was un repairable, so i made a new one from sheet metal, coffee can. the oil seal had made a grove in the damper, i brought a gasket set which included a sleeve, following suggestions on the forum, i put the damper in the freezer for about 6 hrs, heated the sleeve with a heat gun, slipped on easy.replaced seal put it all back together quiet smooth ride cheers 8)
