replace venturi on Autolite 1100?

The venturi in my Autolite 1100 has a crack in it. I fill it with JB weld and it usually fails within a year or two. It looks like a nylon or other plastic-ish material that is held in by staking at the factory. Are these venturis removable? I tried carefully last night and couldn't. Does anybody sell replacements? I've been digging around on the web and this site, but haven't seen any threads or articles on DIY replacing the venturi in this carb.

This carb is on a 66 bronco with a 170 six in it.
Thanks!
Andy

Howdy Back Andy:

We search this dilemma a few years back with no luck. We tried getting the white plastic insert out, tearing up several in the process. We were thinking they were glued into place but could find nothing from tech book or others who are usually quite knowledgeable with this kind of obscure info. We even tried to talk to Jon at Pony Carbs after he came out with their performer carb. We got nothing from him.

I hope this isn't going to discourage you. Since yours is all ready cracked you are half way there. Let us know what you can find out.

Adios, David

Hi David,
It's been way too long since I've been on this website, good to be back!
Thanks for the rundown of the situation. Glad to know I'm a competent Google searcher at least! I'll see if I can find a suitable replacement from wherever and adapt it.
What did you find when you pried those old venturis out? were they glued in?
I'll let you know how it turns out if I get that far. another application of JB weld will probably have to be the immediate solution though. Glad it's a simple carb!
Best,
Andy

w/o searchin the archive (on the hard drive) or leavin my seat - is Daytona, Gone Fishin, and Stove Bolt places to look? (is it "ford carb" or "carb ford" - another?).
The 1st 3 are commercial sources that have reports of 'friendly owners' compared to the 1 mentioned (altho I had good results w/them too) you might talk/post to.
The last one is a site like this - others to problem solve with...
(Put the Q on our Bronco forum?).
Good Luck, let us know what's up as U go along...

Pony carburetors used to off a 1100 with the larger plastic venturi insert from a 223" big six.
It flowed close or over 215 cfm.
The venturi may be held in by the vacuum tube pressed in for the SCV.
Check it out.
I still have one of these carbs somewhere in my attic.
When it cools off at night I will try to get some measurements.

I've JB welded it again, this time I vee-ed out the crack even more, so hopefully it'll hold. I'll start trolling the internet for another carb though so I have a replacement.
I've been working on this thing for about 7 years and really want to get it on the road (so close...). Heater hoses will be hooked up tonight, then the seat goes in, and the body gets bolted down, then off to the DMV to get tags!

wish I was a lill further on w/my 250 swap...
I'd just send U the Carter YF off the 170. Bet it would do for now.
Don't worry bout the "7 years". I've had this vehicle since '87 & I think
ur further on than me (however I work it "as is").

Best of luck as U continue...

Thanks for the encouragement, Chad. I didn't quite get it road-able this weekend; getting the retainer clips for the shift linkage rods today and maybe that'll do it.
I want to put a low-mount 200 in mine eventually, and upgrade to a NV 3500, but for now, I just want it on the road and see how it goes.

"...low mount 200 in mine eventually, and upgrade to a NV 3500..."

that has a SBF bell? U live where one might be found I'd guess (I saw Cadillac p/u, '50s or '60s Morris Minor or Cooper S, Studebaker p/u, all sorts of stuff in the junk yrds there!). See if U can find me a late model head ("hex" or "large log" - what is it '77 plus?)...
The New Venture may fit w/o drive shaft or x-member changes. Seems ideal, like that idea (for some applications)!

Did U try those carb guys I posted? They wrote back to me.

How bout the cb site (from Jeff's BGY). Watch out for the egos over there. They are mostly bent8 oriented but for everything EB thass da place to go. Got good stickie on the NV swaps. Not for the 200 but comprehensive...

SBF I'm guessing is Small Block Ford? Yes, If I'm understanding correctly from the Falcon Six Handbook, That's the one needed to do that conversion. There's at least one Early Bronco on the classic broncos forum who has done that conversion. At one point a few years ago, he mentioned that he had done the conversion, and was then bombarded with requests for details. I've not followed that because I'm a ways off from doing it, but I did pick up a block when I had the chance.

I have a 78 head, but you'll have to spend $600 and pick up the whole car, a 78 Zephyr Z7. You can see it on Albuquerque craigslist or foureyedforums.

I'll do some looking around here and see if I can find another one. I'll be travelling for a while, so it might be a bit.

You'd be surprised how scarce those parts are out here since the cash for clunkers holocaust. They were a bit scarce right in Albuquerque (mostly late-model stuff here), but you could find them in the smaller towns throughout the state. I called my favorite junkyard a while back and they had crushed all that old stuff. Ugh.

Given that the JB weld is holding, I didn't go any further with the carb venturi source.

Thank you, sir.

"...bombarded with requests for details...."
I'm surprised to see that on CB. I think it wuz only a '73/4 (2 yr) option and not seen by most of the posters as desirable to them...
