Ring Gap Question

I am putting my 78 Fairmont 200 six back together-
The cylinders looked like they were in good shape and the diameter dimensions within specs so I just lightly honed them and put in new rings. The ring gap is supposed to be 0.008 - 0.015 for the top 2 rings and 0.015 - 0.050 for the oil rings. The stock rings I purchased have a gap of 0.021 for the top 2 rings- 0.006 over the recommendation. The steel bands on the lower oil rings are fine (gap 0.030).

I measured the gap on the old rings and they are 0.038 and 0.029 for the top two, and 0.060 for the oil ring (way over spec).

So even though the new rings are not perfect, they are better than the old rings.

Any suggestions?

Thanks-

a little loose, and they won't go 100k miles, but they should be fine. stagger the gaps and make sure you have them facing the right way up.
