rocker arm replacements

I have a non-adjustable stock rocker assembly for a '79 200. The outside rockers have wear where the clip rubs against them. So I need to replace them, but this, of course, has me thinking about roller-tipped rockers.

Can we get replacement rocker arms to fit our existing shafts? Stock or roller-tipped? I haven't yet measured the diameter yet, but does anyone have any idea about this? I sure this can't be the first time someone's asked about this. I have searched the forum a bit and have not yet found anything.

the falcon six uses cast forged 1.52:1 rocker arms, commonly referred to as 1.5:1. Ideally, the rocker arm bore diameter is .783 to .784, with a wear limit of .006 to the shaft outer diameter.

Given enough lubrication on the crucial surfaces, the rocker arms virtually live forever. Unfortunately, the two materials of the assembly don´t work well together on abused engines with faulty lubrication (clogged passages, no oil changes since rolloff in `65).
The rocker arm bodies grind up the steel shaft, once its hardened surface is wiped off.
That hurts the rocker arms bore as well, as the edges of the shaft´s oil holes get sharpened and start to eat into the rocker arm bore.

Since TRW has stopped its production of replacement rocker arms for the 170-200-250ci six, single rockers can be somewhat hard to obtain, depending on how many units your local parts shop has stocked before production went on hiatus. The shaft, usually first to go, is still available.

complete assemblies are still available through rockerarmsspecialist, ford six performance parts and clifford.

high ratio, 1.6:1 rocker arms and adjustable, roller-tipped aluminum rocker arms are available through the latter two, though I wouldn´t recommend dealing with clifford due to the possible hassles that come up with his service.
Mike (ford six perfo parts) also stocks those bitchin hardcore killer full roller rockers.
If only I had enough green...

Back to what you´ve got - How bad is the wear from the spring clips on the outer rockers? After disassembly, those surfaces can be milled easily by hand on a plate of glass and emery cloth.
a hardened thrust plate between the rocker arm body and spring clip then takes up additional clearance and restores the original spring pressure of the spring clip.
