Rough Running 6 cyl

I got my 6cyl a few weeks ago and it had only been ran about 1,400 mi in 13-14 years. When I picked it up and drove it for the first few weeks it was doing fine, filled up the tank with new gas and all. Then a few nights ago I came to a stop and it just stalled. Luckily I was close to home but it did it 3 more times when i was idling before i got it home. Next day, I richened the idle mixture screw about a 1/2 turn and added a fuel filter, and seemed to cure the problem. Next, day go out to the car, it idles but when start to ease on the throttle it bogs and cuts out. Today, I sprayed on some carb and choke cleaner, but didnt seem to help, Now it doesnt even idle. Its an all stock motor, stock igntn, etc. So I am confused on what to do next, I was thinkin accel pump??? Thanks!

Sounds like the carb is running lean whatever you do. If it is stock the Autolite 1100s were notorious for leaking around the seals resulting in a leaner mixture than normal. Rebuilding the carb might solve it, but I would advise getting a rebuilt as your carb base may also be warped from age as mine was. Also consider getting the 2 barrel from Stovebolt, its a variety of the Holley 5200 rebuilt for $65.00 which is considerably cheaper & more sophisticated than the Autolite 1100. You'll have to alter your throttle linkage or go with a cable setup to make it work but I think it is well worth the effort as the carb is setup for good economy & decent performance.

100 miles a year for 14 years......that might indicate a tank full of rust and a clogged fuel line. Betcha you could change the filter and it would run ok for a few miles then quit again....

I vote with Jack, it would be a miracle if that tank is clean after all those years of sitting. Pull it out and have it steam cleaned at the very least. I've got a lot of years running old junkers behind me, and one thing for sure, regardless of brand, they all rust
