Sanden AC compressor on 250

I've got a 66 Mustang. It currently has a 351W in it with the Classic Auto Air Daily Driver system (Sanden compressor sits high on left side [driver's side] of the engine). I'm working toward putting in a 250 I-6 and have been looking for a bracket (and ideas) that would mount the compressor in the same location - or at least on the left side of the engine.

I've struck out miserably. Does anyone have any experience with this that they'd care to share? I don't have a problem doing some welding and a little fabrication if I have some of the right pieces to work with or at least a direction to wonder off in.

classic air has a bracket that puts the compressor on the right side of the engine down below the alternator. this is the better way to go by the way, i have a 170 with aftermarket air where the york compressor is on the left side of the engine, and it just doesnt look right imo, plus it interferes with the distributor and the number one spark plug.

Early position works fine for the large old Tecumseh/York/Motorcraft compressor on the drivers side left of the engine bay, where that pesky air pump was for CA 1969 onwards Fords, and most post 1978 Foxes.

Old Aussie Falcon's and lots of early dealer installed US Mustangs and Falcon I6's used that set up.


I like it, but if you have the big Ford power steering unit or the stock air pump, it won't work. The 1977 Maverick 200'S swapped the air pump position to the passenger right to make space for the GM F/6 Harrison a/c Pump.

In Argentina, the SP 221 (3.6 LITER Holley 2-BBL) and ME 188 (3.1 LITER 2-BBL Weber Solex 34) used a cast iron adaptor to use the later US 5.0/5.8 Sanden compressor position.






As the Sanden has become the more common replacement, so people have copied the later 5.0/5.8 EFI location like on this formerly York A/C unit in a 1974 XB Ford Falcon GS truck
