Was the EA 3.9 the first engine to receive serpentine belts? i want o fit a serpentie system to my XC X-flow, but was unsure what model car to get the setup off and if it would fit my engine. I currently only have one belt for the alternator, but was looking for a setup that could be used to run a roots type blower as well. Possibly using the belts for either power steering/air conditioning or both to run the blower. Also does anyone know of a bracket(s) that could be used to mount the alt lower.

Gunna,
The EF was the first to run the serpentine drive belt that drove all with one belt.

It will take a Harry Huodini Act to fit one.

The E-cars had a side mounted water pump outlet, and the front cover of the engine was totally different.

:hmmm: But if you can get some free time at a car wreckers to inspect a later snake driven number (with a set of dividers, a straight edge rule, camera and such like) then you could duplicate the set-up on an OHV x-flow.

And doubling up such a drive with two belts is a cheep way of getting easily got components for a conversion. Just look at how easily the Supercharged Ecotech 3800 GM engines were hooked up. No point in being stranded on the Nullabor with a broken Gilmer belt drive that you don't have a hope in Hades of getting. You'd make a Burke of yourself.

Well, you can buy Gilmer setups for the Red and Blue donks. I bet they're available for the crossflows. Passed on a used Gilmer rig (Red motor) for $150 - they're out there. Nose around and you'll find something.

Adam.
