Should I install the EGR system?

Motor is currently in stock form: '78 head, Holley 1946, stock cam and exhaust manifold.

I have read on this board that the EGR is needed to help the 1946 lean out the mixture (since it naturally runs rich). I don't have the EGR, though. Although I've never checked it with mileage, the car seems to drink the gas awfully fast (judging by how fast the gas gauge goes down in the short time b/w fill-ups).

My question is would the EGR system help to increase my MPG? I like the 1946 (finally got it tuned right), and it has good power. But, I'm looking to increase mileage.

Also, if I do install it, which ported vacuum switch do I install in the thermostat housing? The parts store list several ones with different temp. ratings. Does the 200 only use 1 p.v.s., or is there another one besides the one in the thermostat housing?
