silly question? re: electric fan install

it may be a silly question, but.... i want to install an electric fan, what do i do with the bolts from the mechanical fan? replace them with shorter ones? or screw them in as far as they go?

car is a 65 I6 200

i checked the install instructions for flex-a-lite and an "mustangs and fords how-to" but they all say "remove old fan" and thats it. any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Shorter bolts would be the best option IMHO, but if you could somehow screw the ones you already have all the way in that should work also.

I used shorter ones. I put a washer on them too

You can screw in the original bolts but you will need to turn the pulley by hand to make sure the bolts dont catch on anything like the waterpump body.

I ran the washers so that they woul dhave a better clamping force on the pulley so as to not distort it any.
