Single Inlet - Dual Outlet Muffler Suggestions

I did a search on the forum and didn't find the answer I was looking for. So here goes.

I was thinking of running a single pipe from the engine to a muffler behind the rear axle, like stock. But from the muffler back, I would want a pipe coming out of each end of the muffler (duals) out to the back for a dual exhaust look.

I've done an internet search for the type of muffler I want and came up with this one:

But don't need it to be stainless steel ($$$$).

Has anyone come across a muffler with this single inlet/dual outlet configuration?

yep Flowmaster makes those

and u can pick em up in JY's for like $20 half the camaros/Fbirds have em, since its the 2nd most popular mod ppl do to their cars.
 
I run this setup with the flowmaster single in/dual out and it sounds really good. It has a deep purr to it, but can be a bit too much for neighbors at 7am.

The only concern I have w/it is the clearance with the rubber fuel line coming out of the tank, but it's unfounded so far. The Flowmaster fits good, but is a little thicker than stock. The shop managed to get about 1" of clearance between muffler and fuel line, but it's a little too close for my comfort. I don't put a ton of miles on the car and keep an eye on it, but no problems so far. I do notice some dry rot starting on the rubber, but the line is at least 16 years old, so could be more age related than heat. Just something to be aware of.

I think I have the 43083 and picked it up off ebay for $70 - $80.
 
A few years ago I considered the same approach on a Mustang, I saw the Flowmaster version of what you are looking for but was worried it might be a bit too noisy. Dynomax also made one as I remember and it looked a bit thinner and probably would be somewhat quieter.
 
That is what I am running now. I have been meaning to create a vidio of the sound and system (now that I have a camera). I suppose now is as good a time as any.

Please do make a video of this I am very curious of what it will sound like. I want to run this muffler on my '68 stang. My question is: Could I run a 2" '67 headpipe for an A/T with a 2" '67 289 v8 single intermediate pipe?

i believe that 1" is an acceptable air gap to prevent excessive heat transfer
you could always install a shield of some sort

you are running the Dynomax? That is what I was thinking of using. I have a single out one on the truck and its quiet enough I'm just not sure what the dual out on a smaller engine is going to sound like. If I remember right, youre running a modified head also?

Found a place locally that will do the install with a transverse dynomax muffler for $180.00. We'll see what happens.

Just finished the single/dual exhaust. I have a 68 mustang coupe w/ a 200. I used the headpipe and intermediate pipe from the '67 200, then used a Flowmaster 80 for the transverse muffler. From there I had a shop weld on 2 Magnaflow 22" stainless steel tips. The guys at the shop really liked the sound and resembles a v8 at idle. I am happy with the sound.

This is the muffler I used on my 66 coupe, 68 manifold, 68 six cylinder headpipe, 66v8 intermediate pipe and misc bends and clamps from "the zone" , gt valance and chrome tips, a tight fit and a little loud but it looks great and I didn't even have to visit the muffler shop!

Here is a suggestion that may help you with your fuel line worries. Get another piece of fuel line, and cut a length as long as the fuel line you have near near the muffler now. Cut this new piece lenghtwise and slip it over your rubber fuel line, and you'll have an extra layer of protection on it. OR if you have some $$$ to spend, you could get some heat wrap from the parts store and wrap the fuel line with that.
